Akrotiri / Hand painted silk screen prints

These prints consist of satellite imagery of the UK Akrotiri military Air base located in Limassol, Cyprus. Overlaid are hand painted flamingos in flight that seasonally migrate over the base to the salt lake to feast on shrimps located close by. The base contains some of the most technologically advanced surveillance equipment within the region, drones are often deployed to the same countries in the middle east where the flamingo’s fly from. Military personnel often collaborate with ornithologists in order to forecast bird movements so as not to conflict with air traffic movement.
