Will Robotic Spy Chick Become The Giant Petrel’s Next Victim? / 2022 / 5 min
This video work reimagines the BBC’s Spy in the Wild, a documentary series where animatronic animals are embedded in the wild to covertly observe their living counterparts. Here, the mechanical “spy chick” becomes a surreal emblem of our desire to surveil, simulate, and script the natural world. The piece exposes how animals, unaware, are cast as players in a narrative not their own—entangled in a human spectacle of observation and control. Through camouflage and illusion, nature is not simply documented but staged, revealing the absurd and often tragic lengths to which we go in choreographing the wild for our own reflection..
